As a craft medium, ceramics has long been regarded as subordinate to fine art, in part because of its association with functionality and domestic spaces. Referencing the history of vanitas paintings, these handbuilt tiles, painted with mundane objects found in my home and studio, are contrasted with real, fading flowers.
